WORD PLAY: MAKING LANGUAGE FUN
The carpenter with only a saw and a hammer is limited in the scope and precision of work he can complete.  Adding tools to the toolbox broadens the scope of work that can be achieved, but only in the hands of an accomplished craftsperson.  Likewise, language learning is more than simply adding words to a student’s vocabulary. Skillful use of words and sentence structure requires meaningful practice. Join us as we explore a variety of engaging, multisensory activities designed to make learning vocabulary, grammar, and spelling fun.  Strategies will entail concepts in morphology, multiple meanings, word usage, and spelling generalizations.  Ideas presented can be used in classroom, clinical, and tutoring settings, as well as at home.
Objectives – Participants will:

  • Actively participate in multiple word analysis strategies that can be applied across grade levels and curricular areas;
  • Apply knowledge of grammar and written conventions to strengthen reading comprehension;
  • Analyze the structure of words through the use of multisensory methodology.
